vocational habilitation

The Adult Services department of the Coshocton County Board of MR/DD provides vocational opportunities through both employment and training. Hopewell Industries is a sheltered workshop which provides in-house sub contract work as well as enclave work in the community.

Sub contract work is obtained from outside businesses and brought into the workshop. Time studies are run to determine piece rate pay for individuals who require some degree of assistance in performing job tasks. All work is completed to the customer's specifications and within their timelines. Clients are paid according to the number of pieces they complete.

Enclave work is offered when available. An enclave consists of individuals with disabilities and one or more trainers who accompany them to job sites outside the workshop. Typically, these jobs are performed at the customer's location, with the Industries providing transportation to and from the site. Work performed in the community can involve piece rate or hourly pay.

All work performed by Hopewell clients is supervised by trainers or workshop specialists who train work skills, train work adjustment skills, work side by side with clients, and serve as quality control inspectors. These staff persons have registration certification with the Ohio Dept of MRDD. They receive on-going professional development training; and they have a combined total of more than 113 years of professional experience in the field of MRDD.

Clients are assigned to specific jobs as available. The goal for any given day is that there is paid work for every client who wants it.
