Early Intervention
The primary focus of the therapy staff as it relates to Early Intervention is parent/caregiver training. The true difference in a child's life does not occur during the short amount of time they spend with the therapists, but the carry over that is done with that child seven days a week. Pictures, written documentation, and verbal information is given to the parent/caregiver by the therapy staff enabling them to achieve their maximum functional potential. As needed, the goals are updated, more training material is given, and actual hands-on training is provided.

Adult Services:
When necessary, a therapist may be asked to evaluate a client at Hopewell Industries for appropriate adaptations to the work environment, maximizing the client's capabilities. There may be environmental changes that are required, work site adaptations, or specific exercises that would be beneficial to the client's productivity, such as strengthening exercises. Other opportunities for therapists to assist clients and staff in the adult program are for appropriate ambulation and transfer techniques, and communication improvements via augmentative alternative communication systems. A great deal of effort goes into keeping our clients and staff members safe as evidenced by ongoing staff education.

Home Modifications:
Often times, homes in our communities are not handicap accessible. This affects the safety of both our clients and their caregivers. When necessary environmental adaptations are identified, the physical therapist will do a home visit. Pictures are taken of areas of concern, followed by a detailed written and pictorial documentation with appropriate recommendations. This is usually a joint effort between the families/caregivers, Service and Support Department, and the Therapy Department.
